Can’ believe how ridiculously linear the British formation was against a very mobile enemy, what were they expecting, the Zulu to just stand-at-a-distance?
Durnford obviously kept the left-horn engaged but was too far from ammunition resupply.
I don’t think they expected the Zulus to actually be between them and Chelmsford and Chelmsford had ridden off some distance with half of his command. Pooor intelligence, overconfidence, and poor positioning by the souties, great tactics and generalship by the zulus. Inthinknthenzulusncould have taken RD if they had wanted to but they had their victory and had made their point.
