This month, you could be one of three lucky readers to win the beautifully designed board game Dazzleship Battleships, courtesy of Laurence King Publishing.
This game is based on one of the most unconventional ideas to have ever come out of international warfare: dazzleships. Inspired by the shock and awe of Cubism and Vorticism, the dazzleships of the First World War used a striking form of bold camouflage to confuse enemy attackers.
Rather than concealing a ship, ‘dazzling’ made it more difficult for attackers to estimate the target’s range, speed, and heading. Over 2,000 ships were dazzled during the First World War, and the technique was used by both the British and US navies.
Now you can use this wonderfully oddball idea to confuse your opponent and evade attacks on your fleet in this wacky version of the ever-popular game, battleships. The set includes two 64-page map-and-grid books for playing the game and a 16-page booklet covering the history and artistic inspirations of the dazzleships.
